For sale, for $300 cash only: A fully operational SGI Octane Workstation with IRIX OS 6.5, V6 Graphics, 360MHz IP30 processor, 1.5GB RAM, R12000 MIPS CPU, R12010 MIPS FPU, and some software preinstalled. The plastic case is in good shape, but it has scratches and shows wear from normal use and storage.
This system is equipped with a rare 3-slot "PCI cage" allowing for install of three Octane-compatible PCI cards (currently filled by a Firewire card and SCSI card, with one free slot). Compatible cards for SGI Octane systems can be found by Google search -- not all PCI cards will work. SGI software is also available for download if you search online -- you may have to Google how to use FTP to transfer files to/from the Octane with modern PCs, or try FTP directly on the SGI's obsolete web browsers. The SGI Octane uses ethernet but it is nontrivial to set up. Various SGI forums online will provide guidance and helpful tips.
The computer itself is quite heavy (about 55lbs!) and the system runs loud with dual cooling fans. (It was designed to be a beast!) This Octane comes with an IBM PS/2 keyboard, PS/2 laser mouse, and a sync-on-green Dell monitor with VGA-13W3 video adapter. No account other than ROOT is set up at the moment: so when the login screen appears, just type in "root" (lower case, no quotes) and you will be logged in. However, it's considered bad practice to always be logged in as ROOT (you could bork the system by accident), so the buyer should set up a new user account for the sake of safety and system stability.
I am willing to meet in a public place in Bend to complete this sale by a car-to-car transfer. Because I am coming from the west side of town, I have listed here a potential public location at the picnic gazebo at Northwest Crossing's Discovery Park here in Bend. However, I am open to a buyer's location preferences if they desire to complete this transaction at another public site in Bend.
