Vintage Oberlin Bait Canteen. This item was patented in 1942. It is a box with fiberboard sides and a metal frame. The bait is placed inside and the box is meant to then be completely submerged in water. The water will drain off (quick enough so as not to drown the bait) but the walls will stay wet. This will provide evaporative cooling for the bait inside the box for hours, keeping the bait cool and fresh. The box can then be re-submerged, starting the process over. Bait containers can simply be placed within the box. This vintage used bait canteen measures approximately 7" x 7" x 6" on the outside. It has a removable lid for easy clean-out. This box is in nice condition. There is no off-odor; it smells like pine inside.
