The Cascade Highlanders is a pipe and drum band that is here in the Central Oregon area. We are looking for people with basic snare drum experience ( or tenor or bass ) who are interested in joining and learning to play Scottish style. All that's needed to start learning snare is a proper practice pad and sticks (Scottish sticks are a bit different, along with the practice pad). The band does have some Scottish snare drums (yes, they are different from standard marching snare ), along with 2 tenors and a bass drum. As far as instruction, we do have a full time Scottish drum instructor available who gives online lessons for a reasonable fee, and is willing to give group lessons to two, maybe three people with the same experience level. Also, the band is looking at investing into an online video instruction website that offers 24/7 access to a good number of videos covering aspects of learning snare, tenor and bass drumming , as well as music theory. Any age from 10 and up is welcome but we want people who are willing to commit their time to showing up regularly for practice once a week and seriously learning . We are looking to expand the number of people above the bare basic numbers, and we are also welcoming people who want to learn how to play bagpipes, and we do have a local instructor with over 45+ years of experience. Hopes are that the pipe band will eventually work into competing at local highland games. It can be a really fun and different musical experience. Please put "I'm for real" in your reply heading so we know you're not a scammer. Thanks !
