Svend Madsen (1919-2002) was a Danish furniture designer known for his Mid-Century Modern designs. He trained as a cabinetmaker and later studied at the Royal Danish Academy of fine Arts in Copenhagen. In 1950, he opened his own design studio, where he produced a wide range of furniture pieces, including chairs, tables, and cabinets. Madsen's designs are characterized by their clean lines, simple shapes, and use of natural materials. He was particularly known for his chair designs, many of which have become iconic examples of Mid-Century Modern style. Madsen's work was exhibited widely throughout Europe and the United States, and he received several prestigious design awards during his career. Svend Madsen had a close connection to the Danish furniture manufacturer Moreddi. In the 1950s and 1960s, Madsen designed a number of furniture pieces for Moreddi, including chairs, tables, and cabinets. Moreddi was known for producing high-quality, modern furniture pieces using traditional Danish woodworking techniques, and Madsen's designs were a perfect fit for the company's aesthetic.
