Dishwasher Job Expectations & Responsibilities
The dishwasher is the backbone of a smooth kitchen operation. This role requires efficiency, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to maintaining high sanitation standards.
Core Responsibilities
Dish & Equipment Cleaning: Wash and sanitize all plates, glassware, silverware, pots, pans, and kitchen utensils using a industrial dish machine.
Organization & Storage: Ensure all clean items are dried and returned to their proper storage areas promptly to maintain kitchen workflow.
Station Maintenance: Maintain a clean, safe, and organized dish pit throughout the shift. This includes frequent water changes and cleaning the machine filters.
Facility Cleanliness: Perform cleaning tasks such as sweeping and mopping floors, scrubbing floor mats, and cleaning walls or prep surfaces as assigned.
Efficiency & Collaboration
Speed & Prioritization: Ability to work quickly during high-volume periods (rushes) while prioritizing "essential" items like sauté pans or glassware when inventory is low.
Chemical Safety: Safely handle and use cleaning chemicals.
Team Support: Assist with basic food prep (e.g., peeling vegetables) or unloading deliveries during slow periods as requested by the Chef or Kitchen Manager.
Physical Requirements & Qualifications
Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods and lift/move racks or bags weighing up to 50 lbs.
Environmental Resilience: Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-temperature, and wet environment.
Professionalism: Punctuality and a positive, "can-do" attitude are essential for success in this role.
Schedule Flexibility: Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed by the restaurant.
