Selling our much-loved 2004 Chevy Suburban with just under 192,000 miles. We purchased "Burbie" in 2020 from a local couple, then outfitted it with custom bed, drawers, and cooler (inspired by Suboverland). It is capable like a truck but handles like a car. It’s ready for off-road or snowy adventures, but also easy to drive and park in the city.
INSIDE: The seats are comfortable and in like-new condition since they’ve always been covered. The mattress is the best we’ve slept on and the drawers are nicely sized for clothing in one side and kitchen gear in the other. A handy kitchen counter shelf stores under the mattress. There’s additional storage between the bed and rear windows for pillows and sleeping bags. The bed is easily removed and replaced with the third-row bench seat. We removed the passenger-side of the rear seat to make room for a large cooler (not included) and water jug; the extra space is convenient for groceries and such when the cooler is left at home.
OUTSIDE: There’s a three-bar roof rack with a large cargo box for camp chairs, table, changing tent, skis, etc. A Kelty awning attaches to the rear hatch for shade and shelter. We also have a cozy and weather-proof Thule Tepui Foothill rooftop tent that our teen daughter loved to sleep in ($750 extra cost).
MECHANICAL: We installed Bilstein 5100 shocks and heavy duty rear springs to account for the extra weight of the bed, drawers, and camping gear. In addition to regular oil changes and tire rotations, we performed the following major maintenance items: new water pump, tie rods, and pitman arm in 2026; new catalytic converters in 2025; rebuilt transmission and new fuel pump in 2024. Burbie is mechanically sound but has some known issues: occasional leak from rear main seal; seeping axle boots; tires are good but new owner may want to replace them before next winter.
We have two sets of keys and fobs, plus one extra key for hiding. Asking price includes bed and drawer system, roof rack and cargo box, awning, and window/sunroof bug screens. Does not include cooler, stove, camp chairs, or rooftop tent. Willing to sell the rooftop tent for $750, but we need the other bits for our current build.
